How does Format Detection work?
Format Detection automatically recognises the type of coordinate you enter. In most cases, you can leave it set to Auto-detect. If a coordinate does not parse correctly, select the specific format from the list and try again.
How do I enter a coordinate?
You can enter a coordinate using the single input field. By default, it's in Combined mode, allowing you to paste a full coordinate string or enter certain formats like a UK Grid Reference or UTM in a single input box. If you prefer, you can click Split to switch to two input boxes, allowing you to enter each part separately (e.g., Latitude in the first box, Longitude in the second).
- For latitude/longitude, always enter latitude first and longitude second.
- For Easting/Northing, always enter easting first and northing second.
Can I upload or paste multiple coordinates at once?
Yes. You can paste multiple coordinates directly into the input, or upload a CSV file for batch processing. The app will parse each coordinate, display them in the Points list, and map them automatically.
What formats are supported?
The examples shown are just sample formats. The app also accepts many common variations in spacing, symbols, and notation across DD, DMS, DDM, UTM, MGRS, Easting/Northing, and UK Grid references.

What is the Points section for?
The Points section shows all coordinates currently loaded into the app. You can select points for analysis, click a point to focus it on the map, edit it, or remove it. The original input is shown in the list, while full converted formats appear when interacting with the mapped point.
What can I do in Analysis Tools?
Analysis Tools let you group selected points, control what is displayed on the map, and review measurements such as total distance, segments, and area. In general, select points first, then use the analysis panel to organise or inspect them.
How do Groups work?
Groups allow you to organise selected points into polygons or polylines. After selecting points, click Create in the Groups section, choose a name and type, and save it. You can then rename, hide/show, or delete the group at any time.
What is the Radius feature?
The Radius feature allows you to measure a distance around a selected point. This is useful for checking proximity, visualising coverage areas, or understanding how far a location extends within a given distance.
What is Grid Overlay?
Grid Overlay draws a measurement grid on the map around your loaded points. Turn it on using the switch, then adjust the spacing in metres to make the grid finer or coarser depending on your task.
What is the Add Overlay feature?
The Add Overlay feature lets you load external spatial data onto the map using the file icon on the map. You can upload formats such as GeoJSON, GPX, KML, SHP, and BRD to view them as overlays.
Once an overlay is added, an additional option appears allowing you to convert the data into points. This makes them behave like normal points in the app, so you can analyse, group, and export them in the same way as any other coordinates.
What are Display Options?
Display Options control which visual elements are shown on the map. You can toggle point markers, polylines, and polygons on or off without deleting any data, making it easy to declutter the map temporarily.
How do Export and Save work?
Export downloads your current data as a file in formats such as CSV, DXF, or KML. Save stores the current set of points securely to your CoordinateMapper account in the cloud, so you can reload it from any device by signing in. Save requires an account (free); Export does not.
How do I enter State Plane (SPCS) coordinates?
State Plane coordinates can't be auto-detected. To enter them, set Format Detection to State Plane. A panel will appear letting you pick the US state, the zone within that state (or paste a 4-digit FIPS code), the units (US Survey Feet, International Feet, or Metres), and the easting and northing values.
You can also convert a whole list at once in the bulk coordinate converter. Set Format Detection to State Plane there too, then choose the zone and units once and they are applied to every row. Paste one point per line or upload a CSV; the first two numeric columns are read as easting then northing, and you can flip that with the column order toggle if your file lists northing first.
Units default to US Survey Feet; switch to Metres or International Feet in the unit selector if your data uses them.
